This article recalls the horrible events of of February 5, 1918 when the Cunard passenger liner Tuscania (pressed into service as a troop ship during W.W. I) was sent to the bottom of the sea by a German U-boat; well over one thousand, five hundred American soldiers from various units (among them elements of the U.S. 32nd Division) were drowned, as were her British crew which was numbered over three hundred. Upon the first anniversary of the sinking, an American survivor wrote the attached letter to the editors of the Stars and Stripes. |
