When Wallis Simpson Divorced
Her Second Husband

• The Literary Digest, 1936 •

Here is an article from the pages of a 1936 issue of THE LITERARY DIGEST that reported on the the successful filing of Mrs. Simpson's second divorce (a photo of the document is attached on the third page) with a few words mentioned regarding the stigma of divorce within court circles and how ruthlessly she was treated by the American press corps:

"Mrs. Simpson, secluded in her new Cumberland Terrace home, informed the United Press that that she might travel for a time. Not in the United States, she added hotly":

"'I'll never go back after all the nasty things they've said about me,' she protested. 'I could never show my face there. I don't know why they should talk about me in that way. I'm not important.'"

The image posted above pictures the Duchess in the wedding dress she wore for her first marriage in 1916.
