With Merrill's Marauders

• Yank Magazine, 1944 •

This article, "Notes From a Burma Diary" was written by Dave Richardson (1916 - 2005)

"behind Japanese lines in Northern Burma", this article was characterized as "odds and ends from a battered diary of a footsore Yank correspondent after his first 500 miles of marching and Jap-hunting with Merrill's Marauders."

Richardson is remembered as one of the most decorated war correspondents of the war; a tireless reporter who tramped across 1,000 miles of Asian jungle in order to chronicle the American Army's four-month campaign against the Japanese military, equipped only with a camera, a typewriter and an M-1 carbine.

Cameraman David Quaid was assigned to the Marauders and he remembered Richardson well:

"The stuff he wrote was like what no one else was doing. When it got dicey, the only correspondent there was Dave Richardson."
