The United Nations as a Communist Tool

• Pathfinder Magazine, 1949 •

In 1949 there still existed such hope and optimism for the future of the United Nations as a force for good in the world - and a deep sadness can clearly be detected in the writer's voice as you read this column that reported as to how the Soviets were manipulating the organization to benefit their espionage efforts.

"In July of this year the C.I.A. examined a random selection of of 100 names of persons coming to America as diplomatic or U.N. representatives from behind the Iron Curtain... Thirty-two were reported active in the intelligence services of their countries."

The inset picture on the right is that of Mary Jane Keeney, who was an American communist employed by the Soviets at the U.N.
