2013 turned out to be a pretty big year for the art world - largely as a result of the Gurlitt Collection: the surfacing of 1,400 Nazi-looted modern masterpieces that were thought to have been destroyed - an art trove valued somewhere in the billions. Much of it had been confiscated from both galleries and private art collections in Germany and Austria only to be publicly derided in a Nazi organized exhibit called Degenerate Art (1939).
